I.D. Systems, Inc. and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to Deploy Wireless Vehicle Security System at Newark Airport

Monday, December 16, 2002 in News

HACKENSACK, N.J., and NEW YORK, Oct. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ –
I.D. Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDSY) and the Port Authority of New York and New
Jersey announced today that they will be working together to deploy I.D.
Systems’ Wireless Asset Net(TM) fleet management technology on a fleet of
airport vehicles at Newark Liberty International Airport.  The deployment is
pursuant to a $1,000,000 grant awarded to I.D. Systems by the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA), as
 announced by I.D. Systems on
July 15, 2002.

“We are looking forward to spearheading the implementation of I.D.
 Systems’ vehicle security technology at
Newark Airport,” said Alan Reiss,
Deputy Director-Aviation of the Port Authority of New York and
New Jersey.
“It is vital to focus on security for the operations side of the nation’s
airports as well as the passenger side, and the Wireless Asset Net system
incorporates a unique set of tools to secure the large quantity of mobile
 equipment that services aircraft.”

Newark Airport is an ideal environment for the implementation of our
technology,” said Kenneth Ehrman, President and Chief Operating Officer of
I.D. Systems.  “It is one of the country’s busiest aviation hubs, with a large
fleet of vehicles deployed over a wide geographic area, and its
New Jersey
location is in close proximity to both the
FAA Technical Center in Atlantic
 City
and I.D. Systems’ headquarters in Hackensack.  We are also very excited
about establishing a relationship with the Port Authority, which manages the
New York area’s other major transportation hubs, including John F. Kennedy
International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Port Newark, and the Elizabeth
Marine Terminal - all of which utilize large fleets of industrial equipment.”

The Wireless Asset Net is a multi-faceted hardware and software
communications system developed to control and monitor fleets of mobile
powered equipment.  The Wireless Asset Net requires anyone who wishes to
operate a vehicle to first interface with I.D. Systems’ intelligent vehicle
hardware, which can incorporate virtually any type of electronic or biometric
identification, such as a smart card or fingerprint scanner.  A user will only
be able to start a vehicle if the person is authorized for that particular
vehicle, in that particular area of the airport, at that particular time of
day.  The system deployed on Port Authority vehicles at
Newark Airport will
also feature new functionality developed specifically under the FAA grant to
provide important additional security benefits.  At the request of the FAA,
the details of these system enhancements are being withheld as a security
 measure.

Importantly for the commercial aviation industry, the Wireless Asset Net
is designed to reduce operating costs as well as improve security.
