Labcal’s Be.U Mobile handheld biometric reader receives FIPS 201 approval

Labcal’s Be.U Mobile, a rugged handheld biometric device, has received FIPS 201 approval through the General Services Administration (GSA). The reader is in the CHUID card reader category. Appearing on the approved product list means Be.U Mobile passed rigorous testing requirements and can now be purchased by any federal agency for personal identity verification of federal employees. Be.U Mobile SMC-800 series combines a fingerprint reader with contact and contactless smart card readers and an embedded camera. It can be used to identify and authenticate e-Passports, employee IDs (such as TWIC, PIV, CAC, RAIC) and driver’s licenses. The devices are designed to resist water, sand, drops, and extreme temperatures.

The Federal Information Processing Standards Publication (FIPS) 201 is a United States federal government standard that specifies Personal Identity Verification (PIV) requirements for federal employees and contractors. Only products that have completed the rigorous government testing procedures are featured on the approved product list.
