L-1 Identity Solutions Receives $1.3 Million Order from Turkish National Police for Live Scan Fingerprint Capture Devices

STAMFORD, Conn. — L-1 Identity Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of identity solutions and services, announced today that the Turkish National Police selected the L-1 TouchPrint™ Enhanced Definition 4100 Slap and Roll Live Scan for its criminal booking and civilian enrollment applications. The L-1 devices were selected over a number of competitive systems and will be provided via L-1’s prime contractor Bimsa, the technology consulting division of Sabanci Holding.

The Turkish National Police will use the TouchPrint Enhanced Definition 4100 devices to upgrade live scan systems country-wide and aid in the speedy and accurate identification of criminals. In addition, slap and roll tenprint capture devices will be used to help comply with new legislation associated with the capture of fingerprints when citizens apply for a driver’s license or passport. Stationary and portable units will be located in police stations throughout Turkey. Future plans include deployment at border crossing points where illegal immigration is a huge problem.

The Turkish National Police bid requirements specified a live scan system that is capable of capturing high quality and standards compliant biometric data in both criminal and civil applications. On the award, Bimsa President Gungor Kaymak commented, “After an extensive evaluation of all available live scan devices, we found the TouchPrint 4100 complied and exceeded all our key requirements and worked well with our AFIS system which the Turkish National Police is using now. The interface allows a user to easily switch back and forth from slap-and-roll capture modes with a slap-capture time under 15 seconds. There are also a lot of features designed to enhance usability and performance for dual criminal and civil applications.” Bimsa is Turkey’s second largest industrial and financial conglomerate with annual revenue of $17.8 billion.

“This win provides further validation of the growing demand for our superior dual slap and roll live scan device in the U.S. and international markets,” said Robert V. LaPenta, Chairman, President and CEO of L-1 Identity Solutions. “We have received orders of approximately 5000 units of the TouchPrint Enhanced Definition 4100 since its introduction last year and we take pride in the consistent feedback that we receive from customers regarding its exceptional image quality and reliability, making it the ideal live scan for high volume civil and criminal applications.”

The TouchPrint 4100 was introduced in 2006 to address the need for a small, lightweight, fast and easy-to-use slap and roll live scan fingerprint capture system. With enhanced definition optical resolution of 500 ppi, plus advanced technologies like Moisture Discriminating Optics™ and Clear Trace Imaging™, the compact live scan device delivers unmatched image quality that helps capture better and more data, reduces variability across operators and subjects and overcomes the traditional challenges associated with capturing fingerprints in the field, such as sweaty fingers and inconsistent roll speeds.
