MADRID, Spain — Telvent, the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that it will develop a research and development (R&D) project to be called IDENTICA (innovation and development for advanced identity verification through biometrics and personal documentation in secure environments) for the Ministry of Tourism and Trade. This project is valued at more than six million euros and is backed by the Spanish Electronics, Information Technology and Telecommunications Industries Association (AETIC).

The objective of IDENTICA is to combine and bring together all existing and innovative identification and document verification techniques into a single platform, which will contribute to better manage border security by providing a more complete and efficiently managed information database to identify people. Telvent will create an identification and document verification platform that combines numerous processes such as image recognition, biometric features (voice, prints, facial features, etc.), identification and document verification (pattern matching, RFID, etc.), which are currently held in a series of heterogeneous databases and shared by different institutions. In addition, the platform will also easily, quickly and automatically detect false or tampered documents and contribute to the fight against illegal immigration and terrorism.

According to Manuel Sanchez, Telvent’s chairman and chief executive officer, “The IDENTICA project for security control and management will have a strong impact. As the pilot project succeeds, it can be applied and expanded to all borders and ID control stations in Spain as well as other countries, giving police and security forces greater identification capacity.”

With this project, Telvent takes a step forward in its consolidation as a leader in regulated borders and global integrated solutions. It also reflects our commitment to provide comprehensive solutions to citizens and public sector clients.
