Hitachi moves deeper into identity management with acquisition of M-Tech

Hitachi has purchased majority ownership in the software company M-Tech which gives Hitachi a deeper foothold in the marketing of identity management solutions. As part of the purchase, M-Tech is changing its name to Hitachi ID Systems Inc. Geoff Kohl, Editor of SecurityInfoWatch.com, reports that the software from M-Tech, which is designed for network security and self-service process for management of user passwords and access rights, ties in with existing Hitachi expertise in the area of finger vein biometrics. The company plans to leverage its channels to expand M-Tech’s market, and will tie in with Hitachi solutions for biometrics, RFID and smart card systems. M-Tech’s core products for identity management include the P-Synch password management software and ID-Synch user provisioning software. [end] 

VeriFone Systems has announced the acquisition of Global Bay Mobile Technologies in order to expand its mobile retail offerings.

VeriFone, a supplier of point of sale equipment, says the acquisition is the latest development in their strategy to bring new smart phone and tablet-based shopping and payment experiences to retail organizations. Terms of the transaction, which closed effective immediately, were not disclosed.

Hitachi partnered with Turkey-based banking company Isbank to bring biometric identification authentication to roughly 3,400 ATMs in Europe.

While the new network of biometric ATMs, which utilize Hitachi’s finger vein scanning technology, is the largest in Europe, it is far from the largest worldwide where Japan has embraced the technology and installed more than 75,000 finger vein-based ATMs.
