BIO-key granted image identification patent for biometrics

Wall, N.J.-based BIO-key International has been issued US patent No. 7,359,553 covering BIO-key’s image enhancement and data extraction core algorithm components. The first feature of the newly patented algorithm covers BIO-key’s capability to transform a fingerprint image into a computer image that can be analyzed to determine the critical data elements. Another component of the Image Identification System covered by this patent is the ability to match an image among thousands or more of image models. [end] 

SecuGen has announced it has been awarded patents for fingerprint-based biometric technology in Japan and Canada. The two patents awarded in Canada are called “Method and Apparatus for Reduction of Trapezoidal Distortion and Improvement of Image Sharpness in an Optical Image Capturing System” and “Optical Fingerprint Image Capturing System” and the Japanese patent is called “High Contrast, Low Distortion Optical Acquisition System for Image Capturing.”

ActivIdentity Corp., a provider of strong authentication and credential management, and Intercede Ltd., a developer and supplier of identity and credential management software, announced that they have entered into a patent license agreement on mutually acceptable terms.

SmartMetric Inc. filed a complaint in United States District Court for patent infringement. The company claims that Visa’s payWave and MasterCard’s PayPass technologies infringe on a company patent.

Sisvel U.S. and the RFID Consortium have rolled out an ultra-high frequency RFID patent licensing program to promote rapid adoption of UHF technology.

Integrated Biometrics was touting its light emitting sensing fingerprint biometrics at the ISC West show.
