DOD releases draft RFP for biometrics

The Department of Defense’s Biometrics Task Force is releasing a draft Request for Proposal (RFP) for services and supplies for DOD’s biometrics program. The scope of the request for the Biometrics Operations and Support Services-Unrestricted (BOSS-U) contract includes all services, supplies and related hardware and software required to govern DOD’s biometrics program. The BOSS-U contract will have a three-year base period with two one-year option periods. The total value for the contract is expected to be approximately $479 million. DOD expects to release the RFP about 30 days from posting of the notification. [end] 

DigitalPersona has announced the release of new biometric solution for digital access management, data protection and communication security.

The solution, called DigitalPersona Pro Enterprise, is capable of full disk encryption, two-factor virtual private network authentication utilizing biometrics and smart cards, fingerprint biometrics, is integrated with Microsoft Active Directory and can all be managed from a central system.

Third draft expected Friday

What was the National Strategy for Secure Online Transactions has become the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace. While the focus of the group hasn’t changed the name change is supposed to narrow the scope of the organization to make its focus more clear, according to DC insiders.

A new service based on cloud-computing and secured via voice recognition biometrics has been launched. The system enables retailers to set-up and run online businesses with secured financial transactions authenticated either via online or mobile phone, according to an Info Security article.

The General Services Administration is seeking information from vendors relating to Personal Identity Verification (PIV) services.

The GSA wants to review different PIV scenarios for 2011 and beyond. This includes government furnished systems managed by an integration contractor, government-owned and operated services, contractor-owned-and-operated services, or some combination of the three.

Animetrics has announced the release of a new facial recognition authentication service available on certain mobile phones.

The service, called FaceR CredentialME, is available on devices using the Android, Windows Mobile and RIM operating systems on the Sprint 3G or 4G networks and was launched in conjunction with Troy Security Solutions, a mobile products and solutions provider.
