Siemens bundles identity management and biometrics

Effective June 1, 2008, Siemens will bundle its identity management and biometrics business at Siemens IT Solutions and Services in the new unit Identity Management and Biometrics. The newly formed unit combines the Siemens IT Solutions and Services biometrics center in Graz, Austria and the solutions for identity and access management from the Siemens Healthcare Sector. The solutions used by Siemens in its projects include biometric solutions for recognizing fingerprints, hand vein patterns, facial shapes and voices. [end] 

Siemens along with the University of Graz, Austria have created an RFID-enabled blood monitoring system, according to AZoSensors.

The system consists of a temperature sensor, a chip and a battery. RFID labels contain information about the blood and help regulate the complete cooling series by using temperature sensors. The sensor remains in the same position throughout the entire transportation system, including the centrifuge, and is strong enough to endure centrifugal processes at 5000 times the acceleration of gravity.

Safran SA, a Paris-based developer of defense-related electronics, is in talks to buy the majority of biometrics developer L-1 Identity Solutions, according to a Bloomberg article. Safran is one of multiple bidders to purchase the company, who has seen big jumps in its stock price recently.
