IBG hosts Webcast on biometrics in correctional facilities

The National Sensors, Surveillance, and Biometric Technologies Center of Excellence, a program of the National Institute of Justice operated by International Biometric Group, is hosting a Webcast: Biometrics in Correctional Facilities, to be held Thursday, May 29th, at 1 pm ET.

Biometrics are becoming increasingly popular in correctional facilities as there are improved technology price-to-functionality ratios, more complex inmate processing needs, and the availability of government technology funding has improved.


Center of Excellence Analyst and IBG Consultant Joy Kasaaian will discuss:

  • Overview of prison operations and areas for using biometrics
  • Use cases of biometrics in correctional facilities
  • Comparing iris recognition, fingerprint, and hand geometry
  • Lessons learned
  • What the Center of Excellence can do for your prison

The International Biometric Group, a biometric research, consulting and systems integration company, has announced a free webcast starting at 1pm EST on Thursday, Jan. 28. The webcast, titled “Biometric Enabled Smart Cards and e-Passports: Lessons Learned and Future Directions,” will deal with the worldwide growing use of biometric technologies in conjunction with smart card technologies being used in transportation, travel and national identity programs.

The system is designed for use in law enforcement in North America and utilizes finger vein scanning, which authenticates via a near-infrared light mapping out the unique pattern of veins in an individual’s finger.
