West Virginia companies land 10-year biometrics contract with Lockheed Martin, FBI

Two Fairmont, West Virginia companies are joining Lockheed Martin Corporation in developing a new biometrics project for the FBI’s fingerprint repository in Clarksburg. Global Science and Technology and Innovative Management and Technology Services will take part in the Next Generation Identification System which will expand the size of the FBI’s current database for fingerprints and other biometrics identifiers. Lockheed’s 10-year contract is valued at $1 billion. The new system will include palm prints, iris scans and facial recognition capabilities. [end] 

The Lockheed Martin-led Next Generation Identification (NGI) team is starting to fully develop and deploy a new system capability that transforms how law enforcement officials search an FBI wanted persons database. Development efforts began after a successful Critical Design Review for the system’s second phase, also known as Increment 2: Repository for Individuals of Special Concern (RISC).

Lockheed Martin hosted four industry leaders in vascular, voice and signature recognition at its Biometric Experimentation and Advanced Concepts (BEACON) in West Virginia, a space intent on collaborating between industry, government and academia in the field of biometrics. The four companies invited were Identica, PerSay, Speech Technology Center and Noninvasive Medical Technologies.
