AuthenTec announces waterproof fingerprint scanner

AuthenTec announced that its TouchStone fingerprint sensor packaging technology will enable future generations of waterproof cell phones. This new waterproof packaging technology is AuthenTec’s newest fingerprint sensor packaging alternative for today’s cell phone manufacturers.

The leading cause of cell phone returns not covered under warranty is damage from exposure to excess moisture or immersion in water or other liquids, AuthenTec states. Driven by consumer demand for more rugged water-resistant designs, leading cellular handset manufacturers including Casio, Fujitsu, LG and Toshiba have introduced waterproof cell phones, many of which are capable of submersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. AuthenTec’s TouchStone package enables for integration into different waterproof industrial design configurations that provides the durability and water resistance required for this new class of handsets. [end] 

AuthenTec has announced that its AES1750 fingerprint sensors are to be included on some new waterproof mobile phones from Fujitsu.

Specifically, the biometric feature provided by AuthenTec will be embedded onto the docomo PRIME series F-09C, docomo STYLE series F-10C and the docomo SMART series F-11C phones. All are waterproof and utilize the fingerprint biometrics both for securing the phone as well as touch-powered personalization options.

Among the segments of PeerSec that is included in the acquisition are the Matrix line of device-embedded security solutions, which consists of the MatrixSSL, MatrixSSH and MatrixDTLS, and the team behind those solutions.

AuthenTec has announced that its AES850 smart fingerprint sensor has been integrated into a new Fujitsu smart phone, the REGZA Phone T-01D.

With AuthenTec’s AES850, the Android 2.3-based phone can be locked and unlocked via a quick scan of the user’s fingerprint. The sensor can also be used to control access to applications on the phone as well as provide greater security for NFC-enabled mobile payments.

High schools in Jefferson County, W.V. will be implementing biometric finger scanning in an effort to provide security for the students’ cafeteria accounts. Purpose of the program, according to school officials, is to eliminate clerical errors and to provide students with an easy way to identify themselves when using the cafeteria.
