BI2 Technologies applies for mobile iris scan device patent

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Biometric Intelligence & Identification Technologies, a biometric technology provider, has filed for a patent on a mobile, wireless handheld iris scanner. The new device, called MORIS for Mobile Offender Recognition and Information System, is immediately intended for use by law enforcement agencies as a means of quickly identifying someone in custody.

MORIS is software that is used on a mobile computing device. It accesses a central database with which it can compare the scanned iris’ features to identify a person in custody. If a match is found between the database and suspect, the mobile device will display all information stored on the person including any gang affiliations, outstanding warrants or appearance on sex crime registries.

Additionally, the device has an embedded security system to ensure that only authorized users will be able to access the databases. MORIS will be working with a number of other BI2 technologies’ iris biometric technologies already used by law enforcement agencies in 30 states. [end]
