African companies interest in biometrics rising

At a recent South African Exhibition, Accsys, a South African developer of human resources technology solutions, saw great response to their new biometric package, according to an IT News Africa article.


The software package that Accsys was showing, PeopleWare Enterprise, covers payroll, human resources, employee tracking and access regulation all filtered into one database. Additionally, they showed their new fingerprint scan clock-in hardware. According to the Accsys CEO, the large interest garnered in their products is indicative of the growing interest in biometric solutions for businesses all over Africa.

Netsize has released a new report finding that a majority of survey respondents would use their mobiles to buy big-ticket items.

“Unlocking the Value of Mobile Commerce” includes research on the value amounts that people are ready for and willing to pay through their mobile phone for pricey items that go beyond the usual mix of transport tickets and parking tokens, according to Netsize.

Safran SA, a Paris-based developer of defense-related electronics, is in talks to buy the majority of biometrics developer L-1 Identity Solutions, according to a Bloomberg article. Safran is one of multiple bidders to purchase the company, who has seen big jumps in its stock price recently.

The reposts stated that biometrics will be used to fight fraud the the industry will see a compound annual growth rate of 18% for the global biometrics market through 2012.
