Sagem Morpho partners with BIO-key

Sagem Morpho Inc. and BIO-key International Inc. announced a technology partnership to create a high-performance biometric matching technology.

Under this partnership arrangement, Sagem Morpho has invested in licensing of BIO-key technology to create a scalable and responsive fingerprint identification solutions. Technical and scientific teams from both companies are working together to optimize the fusion of core technology that will result in greater performance benefits and value for clients. [end] 

Cryptomathic data protection solution, CardInk, has been selected by Sagem Orga do Brasil smart card manufacturer to deliver secure EMV debit and credit cards.

As the second generation of EMV data preparation system for single and multiple application cards, CardInk works to issue MULTOS cards. This addresses the growing need for deploying multiple-application cards to end-users in the secure banking community.

A joint venture between smart card provider Morpho and Colombian IT enterprise, Assenda, has boosted the migration of all Colombia bank cards to contain EMV chip technology. In 2008 the Colombian government passed a mandate that replaced all mag-stripe cards with smart card-based technology.

Safran SA, a Paris-based developer of defense-related electronics, is in talks to buy the majority of biometrics developer L-1 Identity Solutions, according to a Bloomberg article. Safran is one of multiple bidders to purchase the company, who has seen big jumps in its stock price recently.

India’s Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), a government agency created to manage the country’s new UID system that will establish biometric profiles and related ID numbers for all the country’s citizens, has chosen three consortia made up of various biometric, security and technology companies to create, setup and run a system that will ensure the UID numbers are not duplicated, according to a Live Mint article.

Sagem has announced a 2010 launch for its new Android phone, the Netribe, according to knowyourmobile.com.

The NFC-enabled Netribe, developed for Puma, will feature biometric technology, solar cells and atmospheric sensors, among what promises to be a myriad of new functions.
