UTSA’s information assurance program gets NSA nod

The University of Texas San Antonio’s Master’s of Science and Bachelor’s of Business administration degree in information technology have been designated as Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the U.S. National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security.


The designation is for UTSA’s information assurance program, which includes coursework in biometrics, data mining, cyber forensics and intrusion detection. Graduates of the program are expected to have gained the knowledge and skills necessary to go onto careers in information security specializing in web-based defense.

Through the designation, the school is now able to apply for scholarships and grants through both the federal and Department of Defense information assurance scholarship programs. [end]

With concerns regarding ID theft and cybersecurity on the rise there should be some type of way for citizens to authenticate online. Standards, liability and practices are all issues that need to be settled before an identity assurance framework can be introduced to citizens.
