Cincinnati to get crime fighting biometric system via federal grant

Thanks to a $500,000 federal grant, Cincinnati is planning for a new biometric system to assist its police force, according to a local news report. The new system will be multi-faceted and will track potential criminals through a number of ways including nicknames, tattoos and face recognition.

The face recognition aspect of the new system will be able to take security camera footage and enhance and then compare the images from the footage in the police databases. Officers are already excited by some of the features such as something as simple as the size of a perpetrator’s eyes yielding a suspect. The agencies in Cincinnati are expecting the new system to reduce time between offenses and arrests, and eventually lead to a decline in crime rates.
