Meesons designs biometric access control system for Telecity

Thursday, September 4, 2008

Meesons, a UK-based installer of security doors and screens, has designed a new biometric access control system for Telecity Group, a European data-hosting company. The new system is expected to fill a number of Telecity’s needs such as reducing security costs, increasing employee efficiency and reducing the dependence on manned security stations.

By incorporating Panasonic iris recognition technology, Telecity is able to do away with their ID card system, which was prone to human error. The system will be used for both clients and employees to gain access to the building, however, Meesons designed the system so that it can be expanded to include access control stations at different areas inside the building as well, thus keeping unauthorized clients and employees out of restricted access areas.

The system also incorporated anti-tailgating technology as well. It uses ultrasonic volumetric scanning to ensure that only one person passes through the building’s entrance door at a time, while identifying them using the biometric as well. [end]

SmartMetric, a developer of portable biometric solutions, has announced that its biometric activated data card can now be used to contain full medical history and health records on the individual. The card, called the SmartMetric Data Card, is a standard sized card that has the capability of holding multiple pages of data as well as being inaccessible without the holder first scanning his fingerprint on the card itself.
