BTF announces funding areas for 2009

Thursday, September 25, 2008 in News

The Biometrics Task Force, a unit of the U.S. Army that focuses on developments in biometric technologies for military and government uses, has announced where it will focus its research funding in 2009. The two areas of focus are single sensors with multi-modal capabilities and multi-modal model matching capabilities.

A multi-modal sensor would be a single unit that is able to scan fingerprints, palm prints and vascular imaging, while multi-modal model matching capabilities would include applications that would be able to process different biometric information, such as fingerprints, palm prints, and vascular images, for scrutiny.

The new areas of funding differ from previous years in that it has gotten much narrower in its scope as last year’s announcement contained five areas for funding. The announcement came as part of Biometrics Board Announcement for 2009. [end]
