Suprema announces new access control system

Thursday, October 16, 2008

Suprema, a developer of biometric technology, has announced the release of their new software, called BioStar, which combines IP connectivity with biometric security technology to enable system integrators to create a flexible and comprehensive biometric access control system.

The new technology’s developers see BioStar as a perfect fit for new system installation as the removing of control panels and necessary wiring lowers the cost of implementation. Due to this, BioStar is being targeted at small to medium size companies. Future plans for BioStar include adding time and attendance functionality, site graphics and other integration capabilities such as with existing surveillance and alarm systems. [end]

The General Services Administration (GSA) has implemented its first cloud-based physical access system at the Neal Smith Federal Building in Des Moines, Iowa.

The GSA contracted with BridgePoint Systems to utilize its TrustAlert Physical Access Control Systems. BridgePoint partnered with EmbarkIT to install the system, which replaced the GSA’s 10-year-old legacy system. The system leverages the GSA’s Kansas City, Missouri-based WAN and remote IT infrastructure, which allows the building to shrink its carbon footprint.
