e-Smart introduces new smartcard technology

The new smart card technology from biometric security developer e-Smart Technologies, called the Super Smart Card, was introduced at the Cartes 2008 exposition. The new card is the next in the line of biometric Smart Card OTP line and is based on the I AM technology.

Some of the functions and capabilities of the Super Smart Card include embedded fingerprint sensor and match-on card system, wireless and RF without batteries necessary. Additional features include multi-platform interoperability and technology that touts being both fraud-proof and tamper-proof. [end] 

Charleston, S.C. has completed a contactless overhaul of all 1,840 of the city’s parking meters, according to charleston.thedigital.com.

Instead of traditional coin fed machines, the new meters come equipped with smart card readers that accept quick and easy cashless payment. Citizens use special contactless parking passes that essentially function like debit cards. Users can load credit onto the cards at the Department of Traffic and Transportation and the Charleston Visitor Center Gift Shop.
