SmartMetric to ship fingerprint activated card with MULTOS

Monday, November 17, 2008

Florida-based SmartMetric has adopted the MULTOS operating system for its biometric fingerprint activated contactless payment and banking cards. The company is selling contactless cards that have embedded fingerprint scanners. In order to activate the contactless portion of the card the registered fingerprint has to be scanned.

SmartMetric’s president, Colin Hendrick, said the adoption of the Multos operating system in the SmartMetric biometric card gives the company the ability to deploy its biometric card to banks and financial institutions throughout the world.

As the company rolls out its fingerprint-reading banking card, it says it expects to capture a significant share of the global card market. With millions of contactless credit cards being used around the world already, SmartMetric believes that the introduction of its contactless card that has the added fingerprint will make contactless cards a more secure payment platform.

MULTOS operating system provides a flexible and secure contactless EMV platform for all international and domestic payment brands, and can be configured to support any domestic EMV scheme. [end]
