UK Dept. of Transport cancels biometric program

Due to the government’s financial woes during the financial downturn, the United Kingdom’s Department of Transportation has had to table its plans for new systems that would utilize facial recognition on driver’s license applications, according to a ZDNet article.


In place of the new system, the Department of Transport will continue to utilize their highly trained staff to find fraudulent drivers license applications manually. The system the government was hoping to implement is very similar to the one already implemented by Passport Services in the UK.
