Sagem Morpho demos biometric reader offerings for TWIC and PIV

India’s Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), a government agency created to manage the country’s new UID system that will establish biometric profiles and related ID numbers for all the country’s citizens, has chosen three consortia made up of various biometric, security and technology companies to create, setup and run a system that will ensure the UID numbers are not duplicated, according to a Live Mint article.

A joint venture between smart card provider Morpho and Colombian IT enterprise, Assenda, has boosted the migration of all Colombia bank cards to contain EMV chip technology. In 2008 the Colombian government passed a mandate that replaced all mag-stripe cards with smart card-based technology.

Safran SA, a Paris-based developer of defense-related electronics, is in talks to buy the majority of biometrics developer L-1 Identity Solutions, according to a Bloomberg article. Safran is one of multiple bidders to purchase the company, who has seen big jumps in its stock price recently.
