iQor develops new biometric security system

iQor, a business process outsourcing company, has developed and launched a biometric access control system which authenticates via fingerprint scans. The system, called FeAther, is planned to replace all password authentication methods at iQor soon including both computer application access and physical access at doorways. iQor leaders are excited for the implementation as passwords have proven inefficient and overly-complex in the past. [end] 

Apple is seeking more patents on embedded biometric authentication technology that would go beyond the standard fingerprint, voice recognition, face recognition and iris recognition modes and bring the potential for behavior or habit-based authentication to their devices, according to a TMCnet article. Some of the new patents Apple is seeking specifically call for authenticating a user via their unique typing patterns and detecting heartbeat patterns of the user through special sensors.

Plantiga Technologies, a start-up company based in Vancouver, has announced the development of a new security and defense technology utilizing gait biometrics. The new system is based on footwear that generates walking and movement patterns, or gait patterns, that are communicated to a system that identifies the individual based on their biometric profile.

Luxund, a developer of biometric authentication software, has released a new biometric login application that is compatible with Windows Vista and both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, according to a CNET article. The software, called Blink!, was previously only compatible with the Windows 7 32-bit version, but this new version also promises more stability, reliability and security than its predecessor.

Biometric Signature ID (BSI) announced positive results from a study of their software-only approach to biometric authentication for students using PCs. The new solution utilizes gesture biometrics via a user’s mouse and is envisioned to provide distance-learning students a more effective and secure means of accessing personal student files, discussion groups and other private areas of school networks.
