SecuGen helps Sun incorporate biometrics

Friday, January 9, 2009

SecuGen, a developer of biometric technologies, has announced that they have worked in partnership with technology developer Sun Microsystems to integrate their Hamster Plus and Hamster IV fingerprint readers into Sun’s Solaris, Ray and Identity Management Solutions.

With the new integration Sun is now able to offer products featuring biometric authentication to their commercial and government clients as Hamster IV has been FBI certified and meets the Department of Homeland Security requirements for biometric tools.

Both of SecuGen’s products incorporated into Sun’s feature Smart Capture technology that enables fingerprint scanning in a number of tough conditions such as bright light as well as being able to capture typically difficult samples such as overly dry, wet, scarred or aged samples. [end]

The agency has a lot of restricted and sensitive data that has particular management requirements. The MoD felt that the Identive contact smart card reader would provide the desired level of security, yet be flexible enough to incorporate into the existing network security infrastructure.
