PalmSecure gets international certification

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Fujistu Limited, a developer of biometric solutions, has had their palm vein scanner, PalmSecure, certified under the international Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (CCITSE) as Evaluation Assurance Level 2. The PalmSecure is the first vascular authentication system to receive this stringent certification and only the third of all biometric products.

The CCITSE evaluates IT products by looking at the security and quality assurance of the system. The Evaluation level 2 that the PalmSecure was put through specifically tested the structural soundness of the product. Currently, the CCITSE is recognized in 25 countries and Fujitsu is hopeful that the new certification will open up some new markets for their product. [end]

Japanese security and biometric technology developer Ayonix has introduced its new palm-vein scanner called PalmSecure.

PalmSecure operates as a contactless biometric authentication device by utilizing near-infrared light to take a picture of the unique vein layout in an individual’s hand and subsequently authenticate their identity. The contactless, and consequent hygienic, aspect of it has Ayonix expecting popularity in the health care sector for their device.
