FBI awards biometrics contract to Lockheed

The FBI has awarded a contract for managing its Criminal Justice Information Services Division Card Scanning Services (CSS) program to biometrics and security company Lockheed Martin. The contract, which spans five years and $47 million, covers the handling and conversion of paper-based fingerprint, palm print and photo records into electronic records for the FBI.

The records being converted consist of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies’ records and will eventually be used in the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) database to be maintained by the FBI. Following a successful implementation of the IAFIS, the system is expected to be rolled into the FBI’s Next Generation Identification program which will see expanded functionality and capabilities with regard to the FBI’s biometric identification systems. [end] 

MaxSec Group has been awarded a $1.3 million smart card contract with the Commonwealth of Australia, according to Proactive Investors Australia.

The contract, honored through MaxSec’s wholly owned entity BQT solutions, includes the supply of 6,000 smart card readers to the Australian Government by the end of June 2012.

The Department of Defense’s Biometrics Identity Management Agency (BIMA) has exercised the second option year with modifications on the Ideal Innovations Inc. (I-3) Technology Management task order under the Biometrics Operations and Support Services – Unrestricted (BOSS-U) contract. The cumulative value of the contract is now $30.5 million.
