AuthenTec unveils new consumer-level biometric suite

AuthenTec, a developer of biometric technologies, has announced the release of a consumer-level software suite for biometric security on PCs and netbooks. The suite, called TrueSuite PC, works with fingerprint biometrics and is designed to increase the ease of use, convenience and personalization when using fingerprint biometrics on a computer.


While the suite doesn’t include any readers or sensors for use with it, AuthenTec is also touting their soon-to-come consumer-level smart sensor hardware. TrueSuite is expected to be shipped to a number of PC manufacturers in the near future for inclusion with their laptop models and will be compatible with Windows 7. [end]

The government in Orissa, a state on the East coast of India, has introduced biometric smart cards to replace ration cards that will be used in a pilot with its citizens in the Rayagada district, according to a SiFy article. The new program was developed in a joint effort between the Orissa government and the United Nations World Food Program in hopes of improving the Targeted Public Distribution System.

The Turkey Foreign Ministry has announced biometric passport administration is expected to begin in the country starting on June 1 with Turkish citizens being allowed to being applying for the new documents starting on May 23, according to a Today’s Zaman article.

ABI Research has released a new study about the potential of microSD to help NFC-enabled mobile payment take off.

ABI’s study, “Near Field Communications: Embedded and Aftermarket Contactless Applications for Mobile Devices and Other Consumer Products,” splits NFC IC forecasts into three key NFC markets: mobile handsets, computer and consumer electronics, and peripherals for mobile handsets.

SecuGen announced the release of the SecuGen iD-USB SC, a device that accepts and authenticates via fingerprints and smartcards. The reader connects to a computer via USB and is ready to use out of the box. While the smartcard reader in the device carries ISO 7816 & EMV2 2000 Level 1 compliance, SecuGen is intending to release an updated version of the id-USB SC with FIPS 201/PIV compliance in the future.
