BrickHouse unveils USB lock

Thursday, July 23, 2009

BrickHouse Security has introduced a USB Fingerprint Lock for physical access control. This lock uses a USB key to access records, preferences and lock information.

The users have to insert a flash drive in the bottom of the lock, and it instantly downloads all information including audit trials. The employer can thus track which employee has entered or exited the premises and export the data on a spreadsheet.

The lock also comes with an optional USB Fingerprint Scanner and PC management software to remotely view all the activities of employees. The PC management software also lets you give customized access to each individual. The system can be programmed using the built-in keypad and record of ex-employees can be easily removed by deleting the user access. [end]

The University of Virginia recently participated in a test deployment of Schlage modular wireless locking systems, according to SecurityInfoWatch.

The university tested Schlage’s ANSI compliant AD-4000 wireless locks with dual credentialing, which allows students to use their campus issued ID card and a unique PIN to access residence halls and rooms. And because the locks are online and wireless, school officials have the ability to update access control permissions and create immediate lockdowns.
