Biometrics conference scheduled for late September

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Security Agency (NSA) are sponsoring a biometrics conference called the Biometrics Consortium Conference to be held over two and a half days in Florida in the second half of September.

Some of the major speakers planned for the conference include Zackary Lemnios, chief technology officer for the Department of Defense; John McConnell, former director for National Intelligence and Louise Grever, executive assistant director for the Science and Technology Branch of the FBI. Aside from Government uses for biometric technology, the conference will also cover issues regarding biometrics in health care and education, standards, cyber security and international uses. [end] 

Russia has pushed back the launch of its universal eID card to January 2013, reports The Moscow Times.

Originally scheduled to roll out this month, the card is supposed to function as an electronic ID, driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, ATM card and immigration document, along with other possible features.
