ImageWare awarded two patents

Thursday, December 17, 2009

ImageWare Systems, a developer of identification authentication solutions, has announced they have been awarded two patents from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for scalable, multimodal, biometric technologies. Specifically, the patents cover designs and methods for combining different biometric matching technologies to improve matching accuracy of existing technology.

The new patents serve as the framework behind ImageWare’s Biometric Engine. While each patent serves a different purpose within the offerings from ImageWare, both combine to assist in leveraging existing technologies and systems to route various data through them creating a more accurate biometric authentication system. [end]

Apple is seeking more patents on embedded biometric authentication technology that would go beyond the standard fingerprint, voice recognition, face recognition and iris recognition modes and bring the potential for behavior or habit-based authentication to their devices, according to a TMCnet article. Some of the new patents Apple is seeking specifically call for authenticating a user via their unique typing patterns and detecting heartbeat patterns of the user through special sensors.
