Airport Security Summit to tackle biometrics

The 2nd annual Airport Security Summit 2010 to take place at the Grand Millennium Hotel in Dubai, UAE has the topic of biometrics in aviation security slated as one of its forum topics. Specifically, the conference is expected to focus on new and emerging biometric technologies and potential best practices regarding implementation methods of the technology in airport and air travel security.

A multitude of other topics are also planned from their panels of experts covering topics such as law enforcement and governmental authorities, the spreading of infectious diseases such as H1N1 and managing intelligence. [end]

At the recent Airport Security Middle East 2010 summit, security officials citing the attempted terrorist attack on Detroit known as the Christmas Underwear Bomber illustrating a need for stronger security screening technology, according to a Gulf News article. Despite the fact that the terror attack cited failed, officials agreed that there will always be a threat of similar attacks if better technology isn’t created and put into effect.

Airlines are interested in using NFC technology for passenger check-in, according to check-in.aero. In 2009, Air France, Amadeus and IER partnered with Nice Côte d’Azur Airport to test NFC technology.

The International Biometrics and Identification Association (IBIA) has announced it has expanded its personal mission to have more of a focus on issues surrounding authentication in data security, identity theft, immigration and homeland security. The IBIA’s approach is expected to be two-pronged wherein they will serve as a forum for industry leaders to directly tackle issues and they intend to become a source for advocacy and education in biometric technology.

Summit Health, Pa. has implemented the SyncSeer asset tracking and temperature monitoring solution from Versatile Systems, Inc. at its Waynesboro and Chambersburg hospitals.

The SyncSeer incorporates both wired and wireless temperature probes and tags to automate previously manual processes. Summit Health will use the system to meet regulatory compliance while allowing staff additional time to focus on patient care.

The INSTINCT-TD2 program is conceived in hopes of developing, trialing and showcasing the next step in airport security technology solutions by having the government work closely with private industry.
