First FBI next-gen biometric workstation deployed

The first advanced technology workstation for the FBI’s Next Generation Identification system has been delivered by the Lockheed Martin-led team. The workstation was installed at the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division Complex in Clarksburg, W.Va.,

The new workstations offer service providers and analysts larger display screens with higher resolution and true color support, enabling them to see more detailed attributes of biometric data.

In addition to enhanced display and processing capabilities, the workstations have an improved system infrastructure featuring commodity hardware architecture to allow for easy, affordable upgrades as technology evolves.

The entire NGI system is being designed with a significant degree of flexibility to accommodate new technologies and other biometric modalities that may mature and become important to law enforcement efforts in the future.

The Lockheed Martin-led NGI team includes Accenture, BAE Systems Information Technology Inc., Global Science & Technology, IBM and Innovative Management & Technology Services. [end]

Jakarta airport opens biometric immigration gate

In an effort to streamline passenger security, Jakarta, Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport has opened the country’s first biometric immigration gate.

Fingerprint biometric identification provider BIO-key International, Inc. and Oakwell Engineering Limited partnered to create the new gate, designed for use by passengers with electronic passports. Passengers submit their e-passports and authenticate with a fingerprint.

KSI announces new line of biometric keyboards

Key Source International (KSI) has announced the release of a new line of computer keyboards that offer a number of security input options.

Among the various embedded options for securely authenticating one’s identity in the keyboard, called the KSI-1700, are biometrics, RFID, HID and contactless smart cards as well as technology called SonarLocID, which automatically locks a user’s workstation when they walk away.
