MorphoTrak algorithm ranked first by NIST

MorphoTrak, a developer of biometric technology, has announced their algorithm for matching used in biometric systems provided by Sagem Securite earned the top ranking form the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) following a test for latent fingerprint accuracy by the organization.

The test compared searches for features such as minutiae and extended feature sets that were manually marked by examiners. [end] 

Indigo Identityware and MorphoTrak have announced a collaboration to provide a biometric authentication product for the health care industry .

Biometric authentication can be problematic in the health care industry due to the industry’s hygiene standards. Fingerprints can be compromised from frequent hand washing and contact with chemicals, which provide challenges to fingerprint authentication.

MorphoTrak unveiled a new biometric scanner that captures both the fingerprint and vein pattern at the same time, says Consuelo Bangs, senior program manager at MorphoTrak. “The device uses two different biometrics. It’s both the standard fingerprint that everyone is aware of, but now, we’re marrying that with the finger vein. So the vein pattern in the middle of the finger.”

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) wants to see a biometric scanning device that has Web-enabled communication and control that’s built on a publicly-available specification, reports Bank Info Security. To that end, it’s looking for proposals for such a device.
