AuthenTec providing biometrics for MEDION system

AuthenTec, a developer of various biometric solutions and service, has announced that they have been chosen by media system developer MEDION for hardware and software solution to be integrated into MEDION’s multimedia system.

The multimedia system, called THE TOUCH X9613, is an all-in-one combining a PC, television, audio system and Blu-ray/DVD player which utilizes a touch-screen for control and operates off of a Windows 7 operating system.


AuthenTec will be providing their AES2550 TruePrint fingerprint sensor and TrueSuite identity management software to enable the multimedia system to remember a digital identity that includes user profiles and favorites for a specific user. MEDION decided to go with AuthenTec for additional capabilities for THE TOUCH X9613 so that they could make the entertainment provided by their device more personalized. [end] 

Apple is seeking more patents on embedded biometric authentication technology that would go beyond the standard fingerprint, voice recognition, face recognition and iris recognition modes and bring the potential for behavior or habit-based authentication to their devices, according to a TMCnet article. Some of the new patents Apple is seeking specifically call for authenticating a user via their unique typing patterns and detecting heartbeat patterns of the user through special sensors.

AuthenTec has announced the availability of a new software development kit (SDK) that is designed to assist developers in creating applications for use with AuthenTec TruePrint sensors and AuthenTec’s TrueSuite identity management software. The SDK, called TrueAPI SDK, is also designed to help developers modify their existing applications to work AuthenTec’s hardware and software solutions.

Integrated Biometrics was touting its light emitting sensing fingerprint biometrics at the ISC West show.
