Corporations expected to drive fingerprint biometrics market

Friday, April 2, 2010

RNCOS, an industry research firm, has released a new report detailing an expected compound annual growth rate of 9% for automated fingerprint identification systems (AFIS) and that the growth is likely to be driven by private companies as opposed to government entities.

Specifically, RNCOS expects AFIS to make up 24% of the global biometrics market by the ends of 2012 placing it first in terms of usage followed by fingerprint recognition and facial recognition.

The report also breaks down the growth by region stating that North America and Europe will likely dominate the growth, however areas such as the Middle East and Africa will continue to emerge as key regions for biometric technology usage. In addition to detailing the expected growth, however, the report also identities key areas that could hinder growth of the biometric mode. [end]
