Aware announces supplying of biometric technology to government agency

Aware Inc. has announced it has supplied a major U.S. government agency with client and server-based software products for the personal identity verification (PIV) employee credentialing system implemented by IT services firm Jacob & Sundstrom.

The solution Aware has sent is their Universal Registration Client (URC) and their Biometric Services Platform (BioSP) which through working together are to provide enterprise-wide enrollment of employees into the PIV system as well as offering centralized data structuring and workflow for the issuance of the employee credentials.


In the system provided to the agency, the URC will handle enrollment and capture of biometric information such as facial images, digital signatures and fingerprint scans as well as scans of an employees I9 form. After an employee is enrolled, the BioSP provides card-based password access control to whichever systems the agency decides as well as processes any data sent from the URC system. [end] 

Luxand announced release of a free, downloadable version of its Blink! facial recognition software. The software provides as a biometric-based login service Windows 7 and Windows Vista operating systems via a user’s regular webcam. In addition to authenticating the individual accessing the computer, Blink! also takes and records a still image of each person trying to access the computer to help prevent unauthorized access, and touts the ability to correctly recognize stored faces despite poor lighting conditions or basic changes in a user’s look such as glasses or hair cuts.

Aware has announced that it has supplied a large European police agency, on par with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the U.S., with its Biometric Services Platform (BioSP). BioSP, a Web-based biometric application, will serve a number of purposes for the agency including screening and converting fingerprint records from agencies such as INTERPOL and the FBI into the domestic format and providing remote police facilities with quick searchable access to biometric records.

SmartMetric, a developer of portable biometric solutions, has announced that its biometric activated data card can now be used to contain full medical history and health records on the individual. The card, called the SmartMetric Data Card, is a standard sized card that has the capability of holding multiple pages of data as well as being inaccessible without the holder first scanning his fingerprint on the card itself.
