Hospital taps DigitalPersona for security solution

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

DigitalPersona has announced it has been selected by Memorial Hospital of Union County in Ohio for a biometric solution to help it meet Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements for securing electronic forms of patient records.

The solution chosen is the DigitalPersona Pro that will serve to authenticate the hospital’s more than 600 employees when they seek access to specific patient records.

The hope of implementing a system such as this is that it will both serve the purpose of better securing the files while also providing a streamlined operation of finding and retrieving the files for those who need them.

Additionally, the hospital is hopeful it will ease the issues caused by contingent staff who only work a the hospital a few times a month as they work at multiple hospitals and frequently have the highest password reset rates. [end]
