Hitachi and Avion partner for finger vein solution

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Hitachi has announced a partnership with Avion Solutions, a technical services company, on the development of a new biometric solution. The system is designed for use in law enforcement in North America and utilizes finger vein scanning, which authenticates via a near-infrared light mapping out the unique pattern of veins in an individual’s finger.

The two companies partnered on the new system by incorporating Avion’s Inmate Tracking and Control Technology already in use by some correctional facilities in the U.S. with Hitachi’s VeinID finger vein authentication technology.

When in use at a correctional facility, a scan of an enrolled inmate’s finger will reveal inmate history such as behavioral issues as well as a complete digital photo of the inmate. While the primary intention of the system is to better track and identify inmates in the correctional facilities, prisons such as the one in Jackson County in the U.S. have also been using the system to identify their own personnel as well as vendors and visitors. [end]
