BIO-key solutions brought into hospital for regulation compliance

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

BIO-key International has announced that it has implemented its fingerprint-based solution, Positive ID Director, for EPIC software to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

The move by Nationwide came as part of an effort to comply with regulations called Positive ID set by the Ohio Board of Pharmacies that requires hospitals in the state to have strict security and authentication methods connecting patients to their records.

The move to BIO-key’s solution wasn’t entirely new for Nationwide as the hospitals were upgrading an already existent fingerprint-based system that simply was old enough that it didn’t meet the requirements set by the Ohio Board.

The decision to upgrade to BIO-key’s solution came from hospital officials being impressed by some of the features in the new system including accuracy, consistency and ease of transition. [end]
