iD1 launches palm vein biometrics for airport security

iD1, a developer of biometric technology solutions, has announced the release of a palm vein-based authentication devices designed for use as physical access control gates in airports.

The technology, which was showcased at the Airport Show 2011, utilizes PalmSecure contactless technology in conjunction with TruSec identity credentialing software to handle authorization of entry into secure areas or passage through checkpoints in an airport. [end] 

Fujitsu Frontech North America and Sensometrix, which provide biometric authentication systems, have been awarded a series of services by Pearson VUE, a testing administration and services provider that delivers millions of licensure, certification, academic admissions, regulator, and government tests a year.

In order to release its H1Biometric Finger Vein scanner to the U.S. market, Hitachi Europe Ltd. has signed a strategic partnership with M2SYS, making the company Hitachi’s primary Value Added Reseller for this product in North America.

The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) has awarded a 10-year contract to 3M Cogent to provide high-resolution LiveScan booking systems and biometric identification products, using tenprint and palm print scans in accordance with the HKPF’s ANSI/NIST standard.

The Lee County School District in southwest Florida is the latest to experiment with palm scanners in an effort to move the lunch line along faster. Students currently have to key in their ID number. If they make a mistake, it can slow down the line.
