GTSI wins contract for providing biometric tools to U.S. Army

GTSI Corp, an information technology systems integrator, has announced that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Defense that will see the company provide Army personnel with mobile biometric solutions enabling them to better identify persons of interest in the field.

The contract, called the Biometric Automated Toolset – Army contract, is valued at $159 million and spans a 16-month period.


The devices that GTSI will be providing are the result of a partnership struck between themselves and biometric technology developer Cross Match Technologies, who develops portable, rugged multi-modal biometric systems that fit the exact needs of the Army’s field operations.

The solution from Cross Match and GTSI, called BAT-A, includes an enrollment devices consisting of the mobile biometric data collection device as well as a laptop to manage enrollment, identity verification and detection. Additional items included in each shipment are mobile devices for field collection, storage and uploading of biometric data and a system of servers for storing all the collected data. [end] 

Vision-Box, a biometrics solutions provider, has come out with an automatic border control e-gate that supports multimodal biometric authentication.

This new e-gate is a thin system that contains vb i-match, a single sourced design that is modular and flexible and can be adapted to business requirements and infrastructure constraints that would otherwise disrupt passenger flow. It has the ability to cope with industry standards such as ICAO. The e-gate supports iris, fingerprint and facial biometrics.

M2SYS Technology has released an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) that enables the storage, search, retrieval, processing and editing of biometric data and subject records. The new system is built on multi-modal architecture, enabling users to combine the biometric matching of a fingerprint with that of an iris, face or palm print.

The Department of Defense’s Biometrics Identity Management Agency (BIMA) has exercised the second option year with modifications on the Ideal Innovations Inc. (I-3) Technology Management task order under the Biometrics Operations and Support Services – Unrestricted (BOSS-U) contract. The cumulative value of the contract is now $30.5 million.
