Fulcrum Biometrics awarded to innovation awards

Fulcrum Biometrics has been given two separate awards for innovation at the Cygnus Law Enforcement Group’s Innovation Awards in Chicago at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference.

The two awards Fulcrum won were the Cygnus Law Enforcement Group Innovation Award for Forensics and the Paramount award, which is given for a single product or service determined to be the most innovative product for law enforcement introduced in the past year.


The product from Fulcrum that won the awards is its FbF mobileOne accessory for the iPod Touch and iPhone that snaps onto the devices to enable for quick collection of and identification matching via fingerprints collected in the field.

The forensics award was awarded to the FbF mobileOne as it scored the highest among the 13 different categories covering innovativeness, productivity, quality contribution, ease of use and maintainability judged by twelve veteran law enforcement professionals.

The overall innovative award, the paramount award, was given to Fulcrum as the FbF mobileOne scored the highest across the judged categories for the other awards as well as the additional categories of cost-effectiveness, originality and uniqueness.

Beyond the mobileOne device, Fulcrum is offering companion software that runs on the iPod and iPhone’s operating system, iOS, which opens up the possibility of incorporating face recognition into the fingerprint recognition system. [end] 

Vision-Box, a biometrics solutions provider, has come out with an automatic border control e-gate that supports multimodal biometric authentication.

This new e-gate is a thin system that contains vb i-match, a single sourced design that is modular and flexible and can be adapted to business requirements and infrastructure constraints that would otherwise disrupt passenger flow. It has the ability to cope with industry standards such as ICAO. The e-gate supports iris, fingerprint and facial biometrics.

DigitalPersona Inc. released a new version of its DigitalPersona Pro Enterprise software that includes facial recognition as a method for authentication.

Facial recognition can now be combined with fingerprint biometrics, passwords, PINs, proximity cards, smart cards and OATH tokens for a multi-factor authentication solution. Policy creation and enforcement works through a client’s existing Active Directory infrastructure.
