AOptix to host roundtable on iris recognition in air travel

AOptix Technologies announced it will host a roundtable discussion centered around iris recognition systems’ involvement in air travel at the ACI – Airport Exchange show November 27 - 30 in Abu Dhabi.

Among the major points AOptix officials are expected to detail are the company’s own deployment of its InSight two-meter stand-off iris recognition systems to the UK and the Middle East.


Specifically, AOptix officials see iris recognition system, which can identify individuals by their iris patters from up to two meters away, as having potential for increasing security while easing passenger experiences by introducing automated identification authentication to the check-in, boarding, pre-board screening and immigration processes.

In addition to AOptix, representatives from three companies that have included InSight in their airport-based solutions include Integralis, Human Recognition Systems and emaratech, which have implemented the AOptix solution at the borders of Qatar, the South Terminal at Gatwick Airport and for the UAE Government, respectively. [end] 

AOptix Technologies announced that SITA, a specialist in air transport communications and information technology, has joined the AOptix Value Added Reseller program.

Under the partnership, SITA, who has customers in more than 200 countries which includes 300 airport locations, would be able to offer its customers AOptix solutions. These offerings include the InSight iris and face recognition product as an automated solution for airports to quickly and securely identify passengers at security checkpoints with documents such as biometric-enabled passports.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology released a report detailing the evaluation of iris recognition software from 11 different organizations, finding that this method of identification is getting easier and faster, albeit with less accurate results.

This new e-gate is a thin system that contains vb i-match, a single sourced design that is modular and flexible and can be adapted to business requirements and infrastructure constraints that would otherwise disrupt passenger flow. It has the ability to cope with industry standards such as ICAO. The e-gate supports iris, fingerprint and facial biometrics.

Biometrics firms Morpho and AOptix have formed a partnership to deploy advanced biometric systems targeted to border management and aviation security industries.

Under the terms of the partnership, AOptix products will be integrated into Morpho’s border management product line. This includes InSight Duo, AOptix’s combined face capture and iris recognition system.
