Biometrics Institute announces release of privacy charter

The Biometrics Institute, a biometrics industry organization engaged in the research, analysis and education of biometric technologies, announced the release of a privacy charter for early, according to a CIO article.

The charter is designed to serve as a guide on biometric privacy best practices for end users’ benefit as well as for biometric technology suppliers, managers and purchasers.


The hope of those behind the charter is that it will assure those using the biometric systems that managers, integrators and developers have followed industry best practices in regards to privacy management.

Additionally, the charter has been developed to be adaptable for the different regions the Biometrics Institute by accounting for different legislative and other requirements.

Multimodal biometric security provider ImageWare Systems Inc. has released version 2.0 of its Biometric Engine (BE) physical security identification product.

This product is designed for airports, seaports and other critical points-of-access for government and private enterprises. This update takes into account the SAFE Port Act, which requires foreign shippers to secure cargo being shipped to the U.S. and ensure the identity of those loading it. Shippers must manage this by 2013.
