Aware has announced it has provided one of its facial recognition solutions to Cambridge Assessment, the international exams group for the University of Cambridge, to better secure exam candidates’ identities and curb identity fraud in test taking environments.
The solution Aware is creating for the exam group, called Identica, utilizes their commercial off the shelf Biometric Services Platform (BioSP) and user interface development services.
The resulting solution built off of Cambridge’s Identica system enables exam proctors to capture ISO-compliant facial images of test takers. These images are then made available to organizations wishing to verify that the candidate presenting a certificate is the candidate who took the test.
In addition to the system’s facial recognition capabilities, Aware designed the system to be scalable should Cambridge officials decide they want to incorporate other biometric modes such as fingerprint or iris recognition to the system in the future.
The University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, a Cambridge Assessment exam board that oversees the Cambridge English: Advanced examinations used by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship for student visa applications has already implemented Identica at many of its test centers with officials expecting the system to be in use in over 130 countries by the end of 2011. ![[end]](/resources/bullet/thirdfactor-4.gif)
