Saratoga Hospital implements DigitalPersona solution

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

DigitalPersona announced it has deployed biometric solutions to help manage the security of protected health information to better comply with industry regulations at Saratoga Hospital.

The hospital implementedthe DigitalPersona Pro software and U.are.U Fingerprint Readers, which will enable the hospital to restrict access to patient records to only those responsible for their care and fall in line with the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act.

As the hospital operates five remote care facilities in addition to its central hospital that includes more than 1,700 doctors, nurses and staff members that need to access patient data, the previous method of manual logon and logoff of the system via standard usernames and passwords had become cumbersome and time consuming.

Additionally, the solution from offers additional security beyond replacing passwords with a fingerprint scan as it can be programmed to require proximity cards, passwords, PINs and Bluetooth devices as well as biometrics. [end]

DigitalPersona Inc. released a new version of its DigitalPersona Pro Enterprise software that includes facial recognition as a method for authentication.

Facial recognition can now be combined with fingerprint biometrics, passwords, PINs, proximity cards, smart cards and OATH tokens for a multi-factor authentication solution. Policy creation and enforcement works through a client’s existing Active Directory infrastructure.
