Biometrics to aid frequent travelers
As part of an agreement between the U.S. and the UK, frequent and trusted travelers between the two will be allowed smoother trips through immigration via biometrics, according to a Silicon.com article.
Travelers who qualify will have fingerprint, iris and facial data taken so that a simple scan is required to pass through immigration at their destination. This new system is a follow-up to the already successful Iris scheme which has been in effect in the UK since 2006.
Iris enrollment stations are currently available throughout Heathrow, Birmingham, Gatwick, and Manchester airports. The new system is expected to be a key element in improving business travel between the two destinations.
