TSA approves Sagem Morpho devices for TWIC trial

The Transportation Security Administration has approved four biometric devices created by Sagem Morpho to be trialed in Los Angeles, New York, and Long Beach, Calif. for use in the Transportation Worker Identification Credential program. All four devices are biometric access control devices, three being fixed units and one being a handheld, designed to control employee only access at ports.

SecurLinx creates facial recognition system to fight check fraud

SecurLinx Corporation, a developer of biometric technology, has announced a new technology designed to prevent check fraud called IDTrac. The product is based on the company’s facial recognition system called FaceTrac that matches surveillance footage with a photo located on an ID card shown with bank transactions.

By retaining the footage of a user, if a check comes back as unpaid, IDTrac is able to quickly determine who was responsible and mark that down so that they are unable to do it again. [end] 

Fast food uses biometrics to impede employee fraud

Problems with buddy punching and misuse of manager keys and codes have lead fast food establishments to implement biometric devices to stop misconduct by employees, according to a QSR Web article. Devices such as fingerprint readers integrated into time clocks and point of sales systems are some of the biometric solutions being employed.

SecuGen Corporation has announced that Biometric Technologies Inc. has integrated the SecuGen Hamster IV into BIOCLAIM, the company’s flagship software. BIOCLAIM is the only medical billing solution that provides biometric confirmation that a patient was actually present to receive health care services.

SecuGen BIOCLAIM is a biometric patient authentication claim service that is the uses biometrics to eliminate insurance fraud from phantom billing, which occurs when physicians bill insurance providers for visits by patients who never physically entered an office for treatment.

ImageWare announces new orders

ImageWare Systems Inc., a developer of identity management products, has received multiple new orders in late September and October totaling $525,000 from new and existing government and private sector customers. Revenue will be recognized upon delivery of each order, the majority of which are expected to be in the fourth quarter. Management intends to release third quarter results in mid-November. [end]

HSBC installs facial biometrics to combat identity theft

HSBC Bank has installed facial biometrics in their two new data centers in the UK following cases of identity theft, according to a The Engineer article. The bank will be using technology from OmniPerception to implement the facial recognition access control systems to help secure sensitive data. OmniPerception’s technology and services have previously been used by law enforcement agencies in the UK.
